General Tattoo Aftercare
Now, you have your fresh new tattoo, and you want to take good care of it! From this point on, your artist is not responsible for any infection or problems you may have with your tattoo if you don't take proper care of it. It is very important that you follow these guidelines. A really beautiful tattoo can turn into a disaster if the proper aftercare is not taken.

Leave That Dressing Alone!

Your artist took the care to cover up your new tattoo for a very good reason - to keep airborn bacteria from invading your wound. Yes, as pretty as your new tattoo is, it is still a wound. Open flesh is a breeding ground for bacteria and infection. Leave the dressing on for a minimum of two hours or as instructed by your tattooist..

Wash and Treat

After you remove the dressing, you will want to wash your tattoo. Making sure your hands are thoroughly clean, use lukewarm water and mild, liquid antibacterial or antimicrobial soap to completely clean the area. Do not use a washcloth or anything abrasive. Your clean hand is your best tool in this case. Then pat (do not rub) the area firmly with a CLEAN towel or paper towel to get it completely dry. Follow with a very light application of your choice of antibacterial cream.

Scabbing and Peeling

After a few days, you will notice some peeling and possibly a little scabbing. You will also start to itch, just like a sunburn when it begins to heal. The advice here is, don't pick, and don't scratch! If the skin itches, slap it. If it is peeling, put lotion on it. And if it is scabbing, just leave it alone. Your tattoo is almost healed, and now is not the time to ruin it!

General Piercing Aftercare
Cleaning Your Piercing

1. First, wash your hands thoroughly.
2. Saturate a cotton pad with warm water, and gently wipe the area
3. Dry your piercing with a clean paper towel and then dispose of it.

Sea Salt Soaks

1. Wash your hands thoroughly.
2. Place a pinch of sea salt in the bottom of a small disposable cup. About 1/8 teaspoon.
3. Add hot tap water - as hot as you can stand - to the salt. Use about 3 ounces of water - which is just over half-full in a 5 ounce cup.
4. If possible, invert the cup right over the piercing and allow it to stay there for 5 minutes, flooding the piercing with the solution. This usually works well for nipple and navel piercings. If you can't create a sufficient seal against the skin with the cup, then soak a cotton pad in the salt water solution and apply the cotton ball to the piercing. When it cools down, throw it away and place a newly saturated cotton ball on the piercing. Do this for 5 minutes.
5. Rinse the piercing with warm water and dry with a clean paper towel.

Soaking Tips
  • Only pure sea salt is to be used.
  • To aid in healing a new piercing, sea salt soaks once a day should be sufficient. If your piercing is irritated, increase sea salt soaks to 2-3 times per day until the irritation subsides
  • ON NO ACCOUNT ATTEMPT TO MOVE THE JEWELLERY IN THE PIERCING!!!!!
